People who live in or around Manhattan in New York will soon find it much easier to get a parking space where they can also charge their electric car that happens to be a Tesla. The company is going to partner up with two dozen garages around Manhattan to provide high-speed 240 volt chargers for people who own Tesla vehicles. This is going to be a welcome move on the company’s part by people who live in Manhattan, many of which live in apartments where parking spots with charging stations aren’t exactly easy to come by.
This will be a major initiative by Tesla to improve access to charging stations in cities, the company already has a wide network of superchargers along major highways to ensure that its cars can travel long distances, such as a coast-to-coast trip in the U.S.
However Tesla has never teamed up with urban parking garages before so this is a first for the company, a spokesman for the company tells The New York Times that Manhattan was “naturally” the place to try this for the first time.
Tesla plans to offer car owners the choice to park in partner garages by the hour, day, week or even a month. Locations will include garages located from Wall Street up to 94th Street. The company also plans to sign up with more locations in the city in the coming months.
