There is no doubt that T-Mobile wants to be right up there with the big boys, the Verizons and AT&Ts of the world, but for that to happen it had to overtake Sprint first which held third place. Following a failed acquisition bid by AT&T in 2011 T-Mobile got to work and with some industry-first moves that it made over the past year or so the carrier has been able to substantially increase its subscriber base so much so that it has overtaken Sprint and become the third largest mobile carrier in the country.
Latest quarterly earnings report from T-Mobile reveals that the carrier now has 58.9 million subscribers in the United States as of July 2015 which is enough to best Sprint’s subscriber base of 56.8 million today, Sprint released its numbers earlier today.
T-Mobile has been adding roughly one million new subscribers to its network for the last nine quarters, in the last three months alone it has added 2.1 million subscribers.
Magenta has done a solid job of improving its position in the country’s wireless market even amid widespread speculation a few months ago that Sprint was looking to acquire it. That deal didn’t go through and for now it appears that T-Mobile is going to hold its own in the market.
