BlackBerry is going to launch a new handset soon though it’s not going to be the slider-flagship that many of the company’s fans have been waiting for, instead it’s going to be a new variant of the BlackBerry Passport, the company’s flagship from last year. Renders of the device have been leaked online and a media gallery went up briefly on BlackBerry’s own website, now a Swiss retailer has revealed some additional details about this upcoming device.
Simply put this appears to be a slightly cheaper version of the BlackBerry Passport even though it offers high-end specifications. The company has managed to bring the price down by using less premium materials for this variant.
The retailer’s listing for BlackBerry Passport Silver Edition reveals that it has a 4.5-inch 1,440×1,440 pixel resolution LCD display, Qualcomm MSM8974AA processor with 3GB RAM and 32GB expandable storage, 13 megapixel rear camera with OIS and flash, 2 megapixel front camera, 3,450mAh non-removable battery and BlackBerry OS 10.3.2.
It may be priced at $539.99 which is cheaper than what you can get the BlackBerry Passport for, from the images we have seen up till now it appears that BlackBerry has been able to save money by not using the premium steel frame on the Silver Edition.
The company has not yet said when it plans on releasing this device but rumor has it that an announcement might be made as soon as this week.
