Sprint has been hard at work trying to steal subscribers from rival carriers and its recent move has AT&T squarely in the sights. You might have heard recently that DirecTV merged with AT&T and apparently this is something that Sprint feels it should “celebrate,” in the spirit of celebration it has decided to troll AT&T by offering free service for one full year to all DirecTV customers who switch to its network.

This one-time offer is being made exclusively to DirecTV customers, starting tomorrow customers switching to Sprint or those DirecTV customers who are already on Sprint and add a new line of service through Sprint Lease, iPhone Forever, Sprint Easy Pay or pay full retail price for a smartphone receive 12 months of unlimited talk, text and full 2GB data per line, up to five lines.

DirecTV customers who qualify just need to upload a copy of their recent DirecTV bill at www.sprint.com/directvoffer, they can also go to the carrier’s website, visit a local store, call Sprint Telesales to obtain this offer. Despite the offer customers will be required to pay one-time $36 activation fee as well as monthly surcharges and taxes.

It doesn’t end here, the carrier is also going to pay off customers’ old phone and contract so that they can switch to its network. Those who are not currently under contract and don’t have installment billing phone payments, Sprint is going to buy back their current working smartphone for up to $300 per line.

AT&T has been actively trying to leverage DirecTV’s user base to increase customers on its network and now it has to worry about them moving off to Sprint.
