Sony for the most part has largely relied on Full HD displays until date, save for the Xperia Z4v which features a QHD display, so to make the leap to 4K would be very drastic. That being said, a report from Chinese website Digi-wo (via Xperia Blog) has added fuel to the rumors by claiming that Sony will incorporate their 4K X-Reality PRO technology to mobile devices.
As it stands Sony’s X-Reality PRO technology can be found inside the company’s 4K television sets. Basically what it does is that it helps upscale HD content so that when viewed on a 4K display, it won’t be so blurry or pixelated, so we can only assume the technology will act the same way on a mobile device that could help bump apps and videos to better match the rumored 4K display.
Given the Xperia Z5 Plus is the only handset to feature a 4K display, this means that the 4K X-Reality PRO tech will not make its way to the rumored Xperia Z5 or the Xperia Z5 Compact devices. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but in the meantime what do you guys make of 4K? Overkill?
