Late last year Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed through Twitter that the company is working on a charger for its electric cars that looks like a “solid metal snake,” Musk is not one to joke around with such outlandish ideas and today the company has shown off just what this solid metal snake charger is capable of.
Musk explained that this charger will be able to come out from the wall automatically and connect to the Tesla Model S on its own without requiring any input from the driver, so if a Model S owner has this charger set up in their garage they simply have to park the car in the garage and walk off. The charger would take care of everything automatically.
Today the official Tesla Twitter account posted a short video of this short metal snake charger that Musk captured our imaginations with last year. The company does point out that this is a prototype so there’s work to be done but you get an idea of what it’s capable of.
As soon as it detects the car the charger bends and moves to find its way to the car and then plugs itself in to start charging the Model S. Clearly this is the way I’d like to have my Tesla Model S charged every single day, if I had this charger, or a Tesla for that matter.
