Samsung unveiled its payments service back in March alongside the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, Samsung Pay will first be launched in South Korea and the United States. The company has already been running trials for the service in its home country and a report out of Korea today says that Samsung is now putting final touches on its payments service which means that a formal launch is not too far off now.
Card companies which include BC Card and Samsung Card are working with Samsung on trial tests for the service using Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge handsets, another round of beta testing kicks off today and runs through August 20th.
Both card companies will receive feedback from their testers and they will then share those results with Samsung to further improve the payments service which supports both NFC and magnetic secure transaction or MST.
Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are currently the only devices equipped with the technology required to support Samsung Pay but the company does say that it will bring this technology to more devices down the line, one can be sure that the upcoming Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ handsets will have support for Samsung Pay.
Following Samsung Pay’s launch in South Korea and the U.S. the service will be expanded to markets across Europe and China. We’re likely to get a formal launch date at Samsung’s next Unpacked event on August 13th.
