Samsung Announces Monthly Security Updates For Its Mobile Devices

samsung logoEarlier today Google announced that they will begin issuing monthly security updates for its range of Nexus devices. This is without doubt pretty good news as it ensures that at the very least on a monthly basis, Nexus devices will be patched for whatever new security issues and vulnerabilities that might have popped up.

What’s even better news is that it looks like Samsung will be following in Google’s footsteps. The South Korean tech company has recently announced that they too will be looking at pushing out monthly security updates to its mobile products, as confirmed by Dong Jin Koh, Executive Vice President and Head of Mobile Research and Development Office, IT & Mobile Communications at Samsung Electronics.

According to Dong, “With the recent security issues, we have been rethinking the approach to getting security updates to our devices in a more timely manner. Since software is constantly exploited in new ways, developing a fast response process to deliver security patches to our devices is critical to keep them protected. We believe that this new process will vastly improve the security of our devices and will aim to provide the best mobile experience possible for our users.”

No word on when this new practice will begin, but as noted on Samsung’s website the company is currently in talks with carriers on how they can expedite this process. More details such as model compatibility and timelines are expected to be released soon.
