Samsung was expected to unveil a new smartwatch back at Mobile World Congress 2015 in March but that didn’t happen, many expected that one would arrive with the Galaxy Note 5 but it didn’t, however Samsung did give us a sneak peek at the Gear S2. This is the company’s new smartwatch that features a round design and a rotating bezel, it will be officially launched next month at IFA 2015 in Berlin. Rumor has it that the smartwatch will have support for a nano SIM card.
Much has already been rumored about this wearable device, it’s going to have a metal build, a rotating bezel ring to control the UI with, onboard Wi-Fi connectivity as well as support for nano SIM.
If the smartwatch does have a nano SIM card slot this would mean that it will be able to connect to a cellular network, potentially allowing users to make phone calls directly from their wrist and use data connection without having to pair a smartphone with the device.
This won’t be Samsung’s first smartwatch with integrated cellular radio, the Gear S offers both onboard Wi-Fi and cellular, so it’s quite likely that Samsung could bring this feature to the Gear S2.
Samsung has obviously confirmed nothing at this stage, we’ll have to wait for the official announcement that takes place in the first week of September.
