Rockstar has banned a group of Grand Theft Auto 5 modders who created their own multiplayer service for the game that rivals GTA Online, the group made attempts to comply with Rockstar’s rules but they were still handed down account suspensions. Rockstar doesn’t allow modification of GTA Online, the multiplayer component of Grand Theft Auto 5.

The modders didn’t tinker with GTA Online rather they made their own multiplayer service but Rockstar still suspended their accounts anyway. The project called FiveM was active for a couple of months now and it allows players to play GTA 5 with custom multiplayer modes and separate servers. It also allowed map mods.

FiveM project was used to incorporate basic versions of maps from Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and GTA: London in the GTA 5 Engine.

“Even when modders comply with what Rockstar wants, they still get kicked in the teeth for it for having the gall to attempt to expand the game,” says FiveM user Ash Rogers.

The group insists that since this project doesn’t tinker with GTA Online in any form it should be exempt from any action as per Rockstar’s own rules, the developer also doesn’t allow GTA Online players to use mods though it has no qualms about players using mods in single-player.

Rockstar has not yet issued an official comment on this matter.
