While the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 is the company’s latest and greatest processor at the moment, not everyone out there can afford to buy a brand new flagship handset that packs said processor. Instead there are customers out there who might have to settle for low or mid-range devices, but fret not because Qualcomm’s got you covered.
The company has recently announced an update to a trio of processor series aimed at the low-mid range handsets. This includes the Qualcomm Snapdragon 212, Snapdragon 412, and the Snapdragon 616. The former two processors will rely on the same core types from last year which are the Cortex-A7 and Cortex-A53 respectively.
However they will be given speed boosts, with the Snapdragon 212 bumped to 1.3GHz, while the Snapdragon 412 will be bumped to 1.4GHz, with the Snapdragon 412 also getting an increase in memory bandwidth from 533MHz to 600MHz. As for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 616, this is an octa-core processor with two sets of Cortex-A53 cores with clock speeds at 1.7GHz for the higher speed cores, while the lower set of cores will run at 1.2GHz.
For those who are looking forward to potentially improved low-mid range phones, Qualcomm expects that these new chipsets will make their way into smartphones either later this year or early 2016.
