OnePlus Responds To Reservation List Hacking

Considering how popular the OnePlus One was, it isn’t surprising that the OnePlus 2 with its decent specs and affordable price tag would be just as popular, if not more. In fact recently in China, 30,000 units of the handset were sold in a little over a minute. Unfortunately for the rest of the world, we have to rely on an invitation reservation system.

Basically this means we have to wait for an invite to purchase the phone which is a somewhat ingenious albeit novel way of managing inventory. However with the list sitting over a million, safe to say some weren’t too happy and figured out a way to hack the system. As it turns out OnePlus isn’t too happy about that either and has promised to crack down on exploiters.

According to OnePlus, “We knew this was possible, and we’ve been monitoring the list for such behavior. It’s not too widespread, but it is noticeable. We’ve already implemented a few measures on our end to limit it, but before any invites go out we will fine-comb the list for fraudulent entries (there’s a multitude of ways to check for this) and we will continue to introduce measures to make it ever more difficult.”

However at the same time, the company made a special shoutout to Jack Cooper who had initially posted about the hack and notified OnePlus about it. According to the company, Cooper will be receiving an invite extra early for his efforts. In the meantime it looks like it’s back to the waiting room for everyone else.
