This isn’t a money grab by OnePlus as the proceeds of the auction will actually be going towards charity, UNICEF’s Tap Project to be specific. As it turns out the idea proved to be quite a success as according to a tweet by OnePlus, the company has managed to raise a whopping $70,000 for charity through these auctions.
That’s pretty impressive especially when you consider that only 100 invites were auctioned off, meaning that on average each invite was sold for around $700. That’s a lot more than the price of the OnePlus 2 itself, but we suppose it is for a good cause. Seems like OnePlus has done a pretty good job of corporate social responsibility while raising awareness of their device at the same time.
In the meantime the OnePlus 2 has just gone on sale but you will need an invite to purchase it. Last we checked the waiting list was over 3 million, but whether or not everyone actually uses their invite to purchase a phone remains to be seen, but you’ll probably want to put your name down if you don’t want the queue to get longer.
