When it comes to GPUs, the reality is that you pretty much only two options to choose from: you either go with NVIDIA or AMD’s technology. Of course from there you will branch out to different manufacturers who might include additional features like a better cooling system, overclocking, and so on, but at the end of the day it’s still either NVIDIA or AMD.
That being said have you ever been curious about who might be the leading GPU maker? If you are, you might be interested to learn that market research firm Mercury Research (via DualShockers) has revealed those numbers, and as you can see in the graph above, it clearly shows that NVIDIA is in the lead.
As it stands, NVIDIA commands a whopping 82% of the graphics card market while AMD only accounts for 18%. The graph is pretty interesting because as you can see, around Q2 2014 is really when both companies start seeing significant growths and losses. NVIDIA started climbing rather rapidly and it appears to have been at the expense of AMD.
However we suppose this isn’t really surprising when you compare the previous years in which NVIDIA’s market share was always higher than that of AMD, going as far back as 2013. Of course at the end of the day it boils down to personal preference, not to mention budget, but based on this it certainly sounds like AMD needs to step up their game.
