Earlier this year Nintendo announced that they would be partnering with Japanese online firm DeNA to create mobile games. This was a surprise to everyone as Nintendo had been quite resistant to the idea for the longest time ever. So far we’re still clueless as to what kind of games we might expect, but we might not have to wait much longer.
Speaking to investors last week, DeNA’s President Isao Moriyasu has confirmed that both company’s plans for a release by the end of the year is still on track. The first game is expected to be released before 2015 is out, followed by additional games in 2016 and 2017. Moriyasu adds that while they are saddened by the loss of Nintendo President Satoru Iwata, the company’s plans are still on track.
So far, like we said, not much is known about Nintendo’s mobile plans at the moment. Last we heard, DeNA expected that they would be able to pull as much as $25 million a month in terms of revenue. Nintendo is also expected to make games that will spread across multiple genres in order to appeal to as many people as possible.
It should be noted that Nintendo’s mobile efforts aren’t about bringing ports of Mario or Zelda to mobile devices, but rather these will be new games that are based on existing franchises, so if you had high expectations perhaps you should temper them for now until additional details can be revealed.
