Microsoft did say a while back that it will release a minor software update for Windows 8.1 RT even though it has hammered the final nail in Windows RT’s coffin. The company didn’t provide much information about what this update will bring initially but now it has updated the Windows 10 FAQ to provide some information regarding Windows 8.1 RT Update 3. The software update is going to bring a refreshed lock screen and start menu.
The new Start menu is going to be a welcome addition for users who are still sticking with Windows RT despite the fact that it has no future, it is not clear at this point in time whether the new Start menu allows for windowing of apps like Windows 10.
It’s also not likely that the Start menu in Windows 8.1 RT Update 3 is going to have a switcher that jumps between a smaller Start menu and a fullscreen Start Screen like the one in Windows 10.
So far Microsoft has not provided a confirmed release date for this software update but rumor has it that the company may release Windows 8.1 RT Update 3 next month.
Microsoft is also yet to provide more information about what’s coming in this update, perhaps it will reveal more though an update on its blog before pushing the update out.
