At the moment while Lenovo owns Motorola, both companies exist as separate entities. This is evidenced in the products that both Lenovo and Motorola put forward, with Lenovo’s phones featuring its own design and specs, while Motorola’s phones having its own unique features as well.
However that will change moving forward. In an announcement by Lenovo as part of its quarterly earnings, the company has revealed that future Lenovo smartphones are expected to be designed, developed, and manufactured by Motorola. If you’ve always been a fan of Motorola’s handsets then this will be good news.
While Lenovo is known for their computers, on the smartphone front the company does not have the same kind of pull as Motorola, let alone bigger Android brands such as Samsung or LG. With this change, hopefully Lenovo’s smartphones will start getting more attention than it did before.
According to Lenovo, “There will be a more-simple, streamlined product portfolio, with fewer, more clearly-differentiated models. A faster, leaner business model will better leverage Lenovo’s global sales force and accelerate the efficiency actions already underway in its global supply chain. MBG [Mobile Business Group] will continue to drive the overall mobile business, but will now rely on Motorola to design, develop and manufacture smartphone products.”
