It is a dog-eat-dog world out there where business is concerned, and when the pie is as large as $300 billion, you can be sure that the US apparel market is merciless to all of its players. Online behemoth Amazon.com has already made a jump in there, and Macy’s Inc. hopes to stave off Amazon’s threat – by making a dash for the dressing room. No, not to hide and cower in fear, but rather, to fight back – and they intend to do so by upgrading their dressing rooms with tablets.
Bridget Weishaar, an analyst at Morningstar Investment Services, shared, “That is the one weapon they have against Amazon. When you’re shopping for certain things, you’re going to want to try it on and see it on you.”
The revamping of Macy’s dressing rooms with smartphones and tablets intend to make life easier for customers to try on items, and not to have them leave the dressing room in order to get the assistance of a sales clerk. It remains to be seen whether this trial will be expanded to other locations, although we cannot rule out the possibility of a successful test being the catalyst that can be replicated in the other 885 stores that are in Macy’s network.
