Now if you’d rather not spend money upgrading your entire home just yet, you might be interested to learn that LG has announced a new sensor called the SmartThinQ. Basically what this does is that it will turn your more “dumb” appliances into smart ones. Of course it won’t necessarily make it better, but it will give it more functionality.
For example LG claims that if you were to attach the SmartThinQ to an appliance like a washing machine, it will be able to tell the user on their smartphone when the machine is done. It can also be attached to the fridge to inform users how many times the door has been opened, and when food is about to go bad.
It can also be attached to air-cons so that users will be able to remotely activate them even when they’re not in the same room. Unfortunately LG did not mention how much the SmartThinQ will cost or when it will be made available, but the company is expected to demo it at IFA 2015, so hopefully we will learn more then.
