Floatees and those that are worn around the arm are typically viewed as equipment only children need when they’re swimming in the pool or while at the beach, it’s not really something adults need. However adults are just as prone to drowning and if you’d like to keep yourself safe without the unnecessary stares, Kingii might be for you.
As you can see in the video above, Kingii is a small wrist-worn floatee. It’s relatively nondescript and what it does it will be able to propel you to the surface of the water thanks to a CO2-filled balloon when you’re in trouble. All you’d have to do is yank the lever and the balloon will be activated which will apparently be powerful enough to pull you above water.
It also comes with a tiny built-in compass and a safety whistle so that you can help attract attention to your plight. The CO2 canisters used can also be refilled so it will be reusable, although we’re really hoping that won’t be the case. It is also relatively light at 4.9 ounces, about the weight of a deck of cards.
According to its creator Tom Agapiades, “I came up with this idea because I had a very good friend who drowned. This experience inspired me to develop a solution against drowning—one of the world’s leading causes of death. I didn’t want this to happen to anyone else.” If you’d like to get one, the Kingii is on Indiegogo trying to raise funds so head on over for the details.
