Many of us are looking forward to all of the improvements that Apple has made to the iPhones and a new report published today suggests that one of the biggest updates has been made to the camera. iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will reportedly come with a 12 megapixel rear camera that’s capable of recording video in 4K, if this turns out to be true Apple will finally be moving from the 8 megapixel camera that it has stuck to for the past couple of years, though it has made plenty of camera improvements while not raising the megapixel count.
If the report checks out, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will be the very first iPhones to support 4K video recording, none of the previous models have had this option even though rivals were launching devices with 4K recording capability as early as the start of 2014.
9to5mac’s report also suggests that significant improvement will be made to the FaceTime camera as well, there will be an upgraded sensor for improved video calls and better selfies as well as support for front flash.
The new iPhones will not have a LED flash up front rather they’ll take a page out of Snapchat’s book and light up a quick white screen when the shutter button for the front camera is hit.
Apple is likely to announce the new iPhones next month, so far it has not confirmed when the event is going to take place.
