According to the rumors, one of the more exciting features that Apple is expected to bring to the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus is Force Touch. The feature was initially only available on the Apple Watch and was later brought to the MacBook, so it will be interesting to see how it will be implemented on the next-gen iPhones.
Of course all of this is just a rumor, or is it? According to a tweet by developer Hamza Sood (via AppleInsider), it seems that he has managed to spot a piece of code within iOS that hints at Force Touch being a feature on the next-gen iPhones. According to the Sood, “Some force touch code in iOS. Looks like they’ve tested kb trackpad gestures on the 6s, activated via force touch.”
As you can see in the screenshot above of the code, it talks about enabling deep press which we can only assume is in reference to Force Touch. Now according to what we know about the feature so far, Force Touch for the iPhone will act differently compared to that on the Apple Watch and the trackpad for MacBooks.
For example it doesn’t rely so much on pressure, but rather the surface area that is being depressed. Some examples of how it will be implemented includes launching turn-by-turn navigation when pressing an area on the map, used to pull up word definitions, and so on. Either way we suppose we’ll have to wait for Apple’s official announcement which hopefully won’t be too far off.
