It has been a couple of years since Rockstar released Grand Theft Auto V, and if you’re wondering how the game fares in today’s market where there are plenty of alternatives and games to play, you’re in luck as Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two, has recently announced their financials.
According to the numbers, it looks like the publisher has managed to ship a whopping 54 million copies of the game to date. Of course shipping numbers and sales numbers are two entirely different things, but generally speaking shipping numbers are a representation of how much demand there is for the game.
Granted not all 54 million units might have been sold, but we reckon it might be close. The 54 million shipment also represents a 2 million increase from the last quarter, so a 2 million increase in shipments over 3 months is pretty impressive. This doesn’t really come as a surprise given how popular the game is.
In fact if you might recall, back in 2013 when the game was first released, it managed to pull in a whopping $1 billion in revenue within 3 days of launch. Last we checked, which was a couple of years ago, 15 million units of the game had also been sold. In the meantime Take-Two’s catalog sales during the quarter came in at $67.5 million which was possible largely thanks to the publisher’s Grand Theft Auto and Borderlands franchises.
