Google Dismisses Antitrust Accusations In Europe

The European Union’s top antitrust official has claimed that Google, the technology giant from the US, could very well be in violation of antitrust laws in that part of the world, citing that Google has favored several of its own search results over those which were hunted down by its rivals. However, Google claims that there is the implication that a rising amount of competition within the region’s online search market thanks to the company’s activities in the region, and this has been submitted as a response to the European Commission.

This particular investigation is not new, of course, where the European Union had already asked Google for more concessions slightly more than two years ago. If Google were to be found guilty of violating antitrust laws over in the EU, then the company might be staring down a potentially damaging fine which might amount to billions of dollars.

Google at the moment has approximately 90% share in Europe’s search market, as opposed to the 65% figure over across the pond. The European Union has also been cited to be investigating Google over the dominance of its Android operating system that runs on mobile devices. What do you think of the situation at hand?
