So it has been officially revealed that Android M has been officially called Android Marshmallow. Over the years Google has relied on sweet snacks and desserts to name its Android builds and we’re sure many are wondering why? Granted Google is following some kind of theme, but the question is why go with that theme in the first place?
For those who are curious, look no further than in the video above put together by Googlers Nat and Lo. Both the ladies talk with various people at Google and on the Android team to find out why they have chosen to name Android after sweets, which apparently came about when they were eating donut burgers.
The video also revealed that Google has received many letters from fans around the world asking them to name the next Android build after a particular treat. In fact before naming Android 4.4 KitKat, Google received a Kouglof, which is some kind of cake from France, where they were asked to name the next build of Android after it.
They also talk about how Google tries to troll its community on purpose, like during the recent Google I/O where Googler Dave Burke wore a smartwatch with a picture of a Milkshake on its face, which was an attempt to trick people into thinking that Android M would be named after Milkshake.
It’s a fun and informative video and you also get to see how the Android Marshmallow statue was made, so if you have a few minutes to spare you should check it out.
