For starters it will not rely on Square Enix’s Luminous Engine, and that there will be major changes to its battle system, but what exactly are those changes? For starters we know initially there are no plans to use the old ATB system, so what will it be? According to Gematsu’s translation of the project’s producer Yoshinori Kitase with Famitsu, it will mostly rely on trial and error until they figure it out.
Kitase was quoted as saying, “We’re starting to see the visual direction. On the other hand, we’re currently working out the battle system and such through trial-and-error. Since there’s a possibility that the command battle system of the old days might not work today, we’re thinking hard about what kind of direction we can take it.”
Based on that, it sounds like at worst, Square Enix could be returning to the ATB system that kind of made its games so special, but like we said this is meant to be a remake meaning that fans are expecting something very different. Either way we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more information so do check back with us later for the details.
