In a post on Facebook’s website, the company claims that they are stepping up their efforts on cracking down on video piracy on its website. “We’ve heard from some of our content partners that third parties too frequently misuse their content on Facebook. For instance, publishers have told us that their videos are sometimes uploaded directly to Facebook without their permission.”
So what is Facebook going to do about it? Basically they will be attempting to create something similar to YouTube’s Content ID which is able to match videos to see if they’re authorized uploads or not. At the moment the social network uses Audible Magic to help identify unauthorized videos, but they are expected to step things up to make it better at detecting said videos.
This comes amidst earlier rumors that suggests that Facebook might want to start getting more serious about videos, possibly turning themselves into a YouTube competitor and to the extent where they will offer to share ad revenue with video creators, although so far there has been no such confirmation of their plans just yet.
