Dota 2 has a very large fan following around the world and every year these fans look towards Valve’s Dota 2 The International Championship where teams from all across the globe compete to win fame and fortune. This was a record year for the championship as the prize pool swelled to $10 million before topping out at $18 million, that’s a lot of money to play for and Evil Geniuses took the biggest chunk worth $6.6 million by winning the Dota 2 International Championship at the Keyarena in Seattle.
Evil Geniuses is the first team from the United States to win this tournament, team members include Saahil “UNiVeRsE” Arora, Kurtis “Aui_2000″ Ling, and Peter “ppd” Dager from the U.S., Clinton “Fear” Loomis from Canada and 16-year old Sumail “Suma1L” Hassan Syed from Pakistan. The team has collectively won $6.6 million and each member will take home a cool $1.3 million.
This has been a surprise victory for Evil Geniuses who were knocked out in the tournament’s Upper bracket by CDEC, but the bounced back strong after defeating LGD Gaming in the Lower bracket finals.
CDEC still managed to win $2.8 million, around $560,000 per player, even though Evil Geniuses won the best out of five series 3-1 and now stand crowned as champions at the Dota 2 International Championship.
