It looks like the AT&T family has just expanded to include a brand new set top box from DirecTV, and what makes this particular model special is the fact that additional customers can now watch 4K Ultra HD (UHD) programming on just about any 4K TV model out there. Known as the 4K Genie Mini, this set top box is so small, it measures roughly the size of a paperback book, which would then offer full Genie and 4K capability.
Basically, the 4K Genie Mini eliminates the need for a DirecTV ready 4K TV, which is a good thing as there is no need to get all specific about your hardware purchases. Apart from superior picture resolution, the 4K Genie Mini will also be able to support Dolby Digital Plus audio decoding.
Henry Derovanessian, senior vice president Consumer Premise Engineering, DIRECTV, part of the AT&T family, shared, “Customers who want the best picture quality are creating more demand for 4K. The new 4K Genie Mini allows us to meet that demand by expanding 4K access to more of our customers nationwide.”
At the moment, DirecTV offers a wide range of 4K UHD titles, where among them include new releases, popular films and nature documentaries. [Press Release]
