They say that the only way to know if you are a leader is to look behind you – if anyone’s following you, then good for you – otherwise, you are just someone who is taking a walk. Having said that, Google’s recent restructuring exercise that saw Alphabet come into being drew plenty of interest, especially when Google decided to settle on a “.xyz” name for Alphabet. This has since sparked off quite a number of purchases in Google-related .xzy domains by cyber squatters.
We are not talking about just hundreds of people, but thousands of people here who have done their bit to pick up a “.xyz” website name some time this week, hoping to cash in big one day after Google’s Alphabet decided on ABC.xyz as its website.
Most of the newly minted domain names come in the likes of “googlecars.xyz,” “googlefiber.xyz,” “googledocs.xyz” and “alphebetventure.xyz”, and it sure as heck that they are not going to stop anytime soon – as long as these people can think of something. You can be sure that none of those belong to Google at the moment – although we are not quite sure whether that will remain so in the future.
