apple music

If a new survey is to be believed Apple has a problem on its hands, apparently people who have signed up for Apple Music are jumping ship in great numbers. The survey finds that 48 percent of Apple Music users have stopped using the service after initially signing up for it, it also finds that so far only 11 percent of all iOS users have tried out Apple Music. The survey was conducted by MusicWatch with 5,000 consumers in the United States who were asked about their knowledge and usage of Apple Music.

At first glance 11 percent usage level might seem low but it’s actually similar to usage levels for iTunes music purchases by iOS users so it’s actually good that Apple Music has been used by 11 percent of iOS users considering the fact that the music streaming service has only been available for two months.

That’s not to say that the usage rate could have been much better. It’s the retention rate that’s alarming, many wouldn’t have expected that Apple Music would lose almost half of its user base once the free trial ended.

It was recently reported that Apple Music has nabbed 11 million trial subscribers but this survey makes it seem that not all of them are content with paying the company monthly to continue using the music streaming service. The survey also finds that 61 percent of existing users have the auto-renewal option turned off.

There’s no doubt that Apple has room to grow here and we can be certain that it will work hard to ensure that Apple Music is the king of music streaming services but it’s certainly not going to be an easy ride.
