Speaking to Re/code, Rowan Trollope, the senior VP and general manager of Cisco’s collaboration technology group said, “We’re not going to do this with anyone else. We’ll continue to work with the other platforms, but if we had wanted to do a deal like this around Android, the first question we’d have to ask is which Android? There’s so much fragmentation on that platform, there’s no clear place to start.”
The goal, it seems, is to get iPhones and iPads to be the preferred mobile devices to be used amongst enterprise customers, which could actually help Apple especially in the tablet department. While the iPad is still leading the way in terms of tablets, sales of the device are actually on the decline for a while now. Seeing widespread adoption in the enterprise space would no doubt help to boost its sales.
Apple’s partnership with Cisco seems to be in line with their enterprise efforts. Last year the Cupertino company announced a partnership with IBM in which they launched a suite of apps designed for the enterprise, which interestingly enough also managed to extend to helping out the elderly in Japan.
