According to Yahoo’s announcement, “Polyvore is a leading social shopping site that enables its users across the globe to shop their favorite products, discover new inspiration and express their style. The acquisition will accelerate Yahoo’s digital content growth strategy across the areas of social, mobile, and native.”
For those who are unfamiliar with Polyvore, basically it’s a website where users can put together various sets of clothing and accessories that they think go well together, which in a way could be described as the Pinterest for fashion. It is unclear as to what specifically Yahoo will want with the website, but for now it seems to be largely motivated by ads.
According to the announcement, “Polyvore’s technology will bring a proven native ad model, new compelling native ad formats, and strong advertising relationships with more than 350 retailers to Yahoo’s fast-growing native advertising platform, Yahoo Gemini.” It does not seem that Yahoo will be making any major changes to the website, so for now it should service as usual.
