Popular video streaming platform for video games, Twitch, has recently announced that they are making the transition from Flash to HTML5, a more popular and supposedly better standard. However as Twitch notes, for now only the controls have been changed to HTML5 while the video remains in Flash, at least for now.
The company writes on its blog, “Today’s redesign moves half of the video player – specifically the controls – from Flash to HTML5 and Javascript. The video itself is still in Flash underneath the controls. However, this is an important step to releasing the much-anticipated full HTML5 player.”
Flash has been getting a lot of flak these days. Recently there was a new zero-day vulnerability discovered which led to developers calling to put an end to Flash once and for all. Mozilla had also started to block Flash on their Firefox browser by default due to security concerns, but what do you guys think? Should Flash stay? Or is it about time it was retired?
