It seems that Doyle himself was still able to hear the inflection of his late wife’s voice in the only way that she could say to him, ‘You’re such a dork.’ Eileen, his late wife, was a self-proclaimed geek as well, as both of them greatly loved the Star Wars universe. Doyle mentioned that when Eileen passed away from the battle with pancreatic cancer late in 2012, “doing the walk down the West Coast in armor was really the only choice I had.”
Doyle’s walk has also seen a fundraising effort made in Eileen’s name, having picked up $4,065 to date which will be used to donate items like blankets, toys, and other items to children who are living with cancer. So far, Doyle has managed to maintain a pace of approximately 20 miles each day, although he did hit 45 miles in a day once, as he walked with a jogging stroller that is full of gear such as a cot, a chair, a tarp and other necessities, but not a blaster. Doyle hopes to be able to arrive in San Diego today in time for the Comic-Con weekend, where Sansweet has provided him with a pass to the convention, while the four-day hotel stay will be funded by the 501st Legion.
