Starting in 2016, the Starbucks app will now display news stories from The New York Times. Obviously it won’t contain the entire contents of the publication, but instead it will feature the top news stories of each day along with a selection of free articles. To make subscribing to The New York Times more attractive, Starbucks customers can earn themselves some “Stars” in the progress.
These stars can be saved up and used towards claiming free food and drink from the company. According to Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, “We see a future in which the Starbucks retail experience seamlessly extends to the mobile devices our millions of customers carry with them every day. Our relationship with The New York Times is the perfect example of bringing this vision to life.”
So if you’re a fan of Starbucks and wouldn’t mind getting in some news while you sit back and enjoy your drink, come 2016 you will be able to do just that. Alternatively you could always download The New York Times’ app if you can’t wait that long.
