Blackphone is a privacy-focused smartphone developed by a company called Silent Circle, the company today announced that it has joined Google’s Android for Work program with a new handset called Blackphone 2. It’s Silent Circle’s first product for the Android for Work program that’s powered by a custom version of Android called Silent OS.
Google announced the Android for Work program earlier this year, with this program it aims to provide businesses simple management and improved security for deployed devices. Silent Circle says that Android for Work’s flexibility in offering customizable solutions fits the company’s “privacy without compromise” approach.
Silent Circle’s enterprise privacy platform provides a combination of services, software and devices that work in tandem to integrate privacy at every level and the Blackphone 2 is at the very heart of this platform.
Blackphone 2 will be released this fall and it will feature support for Google Play and Google Mobile Services as well as support for Android for Work. Businesses will be able to balance their control of data and connectivity with established services that are deployed company-wide.
The new device is also going to offer support for existing Mobile Device Management programs as well, Silent Circle promises “faster hardware” but is yet to reveal the detailed specifications of Blackphone 2. A price point has not been revealed as yet.
