As it turns out, it seems that rooting your Samsung handset will cause Samsung Pay to stop functioning properly, and you will be greeted by the error message which you can see in the screenshot to the right. We suppose this is fair since modifying your device could potentially compromise the security of the feature.
However considering that many Android users tend to root their devices because they want to install special tweaks or flash custom ROMs, no doubt this won’t sit well with users who will now have to decide if they want to sacrifice their customizability over a feature. It is unclear if this will change anytime soon, but we doubt it.
In the meantime Samsung Pay is currently live in South Korea where it is undergoing a trial run. Presumably if successful it will launch on a larger scale and will eventually make its way to other parts of the world, although right now it’s anyone’s guess as to when that might be happening.
