Samsung’s new payment service was unveiled back at the Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona this March but since then the company has been fine tuning this service and hasn’t actually launched it yet. The first markets for this service include South Korea and the United States, Samsung announced today that ahead of the impending launch it has started the Samsung Pay trial service in South Korea.
The trial service has been launched in partnership with Samsung Card for select customers in the country, users of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge will be the first to have access to this payments service.
This trial service will allow the company to put Samsung Pay through its paces before opening it up to the general public, that might happen next month as its arrival has always been linked with the launch of the Galaxy Note 5.
Samsung Pay is the only payments service that works with both near field communication or NFC card readers and magnetic secure transmission or MST technologies, which means that merchants don’t have to spend money on costly equipment just so they can accept payments using Samsung Pay.
For users it means that this contactless payment service will be automatically supported by a significant number of merchants so they get more chances of actually using it on a daily basis.
Once Samsung Pay is live in South Korea and the United States after that the company will focus on expanding it to other markets across the globe.
