Earlier this year at MWC 2015 Samsung announced their own mobile payments service in the form of Samsung Pay. If you were wondering when the feature would be released, it seems that it might be soon. It has been reported that Samsung has launched a live beta test of the service in its home country of South Korea.
However the beta testing of the service appears to be a short-run test as Samsung will only be putting it through its paces for 36 days. Presumably the company has already tested the feature, and that this live beta testing is just so that they can get an idea of how it will function in real-life and if it is good enough for prime time.
For those who are living in South Korea and wouldn’t mind being part of the test, Samsung will be recruiting beta tests tomorrow who will then be able to use the service at Samsung Card member stores from the 15th of July to the 20th of August. To encourage spending, Samsung will be rewarding beta testers who spend more than 50,000 won using Samsung Pay with 10,000 points.
Assuming that all of this goes well, it looks like we can expect Samsung Pay to make its way stateside later this year, although it will be interesting then to see how it will hold up against the competition such as Apple Pay and Android Pay.
