If you’ve been looking to increase the storage on your desktop PC and are in the market for a faster alternative to conventional hard drives then Samsung has just the thing for you. The company today launched its 2TB solid state drives for PCs which bring a great amount of storage coupled with fast data transfer speeds to meet the needs of the discerning user. The 2-terabyte 850 PRO and 850 EVO solid state drives from Samsung are the latest addition in the company’s retail SSD lineup which offers storage options from 120GB all the way up to 2TB.
Samsung’s retail SSD line now features up to 20 different products with various capacity options and happen to be available in 50 countries across the globe, the company says it has launched the 2TB drives to address the “ever-increasing consumer demand for high-performance and high-capacity memory solutions.
The company’s new 2TB 850 SSD PRO and EVO drives are housed in the same 7mm and 2.5 inch aluminum case as their predecessors and house 128 individual Samsung 32-layer 128GB 3D V-NAND flash chips inside with an upgraded high-performance MHX controller which supports 2TB capacity as well as four 20nm-class process technology based 4Gb LPDDR3 DRAM chips.
The ‘standard’ 2TB 850 EVO is priced at $800 while the 850 PRO is going to cost customers a cool $1,000. Samsung says that following the launch of these drives it’s going to expand this lineup to include mSATA and M.2 form factors to better facilitate the gaming PC, high performance SSD and laptop PC markets.
