It had been reported a while back that Ouya was looking for a buyer and it finally got one, following confirmation from a financial institution that Razer would be picking up the company, Razer today officially confirmed the acquisition of Ouya software assets. The company says that it will add Ouya’s digital platform and content to its product offerings and looks to improve its standing in the Android TV gaming market.

Razer has acquired Ouya’s software assets including its content catalog and online retail platform for an undisclosed sum. The technical team and developer relations personnel who previously worked at Ouya have joined Razer’s software team.

The company’s co-founder and CEO Min-Liang Tan says that the company has “a long-term vision for Android TV and Android-based TV consoles, such as the Xiaomi Mi Box and Alibaba Tmall Box, to which OUYA already publishes.”

Today’s announcement implies that Razer isn’t buying Ouya’s hardware business which means that the Android micro-console’s future remains uncertain.

Razer says that it will provide existing Ouya users with a “clear path of migration to the more advanced Forge TV micro-console,” the company intends to enable users to bring their controllers, games and accounts to the Cortex TV platform on the Forge.

Ouya store that has been acquired by the company will later be re-launched as Cortex for Android TV and it will be a one-stop destination for Razer Forge TV games and additional content.
