Isn’t it cool that technology has advanced to such a point where we are now able to carry the kind of computing power on our wrists which is equal to that of what our desktops had a decade ago? This means that there is plenty of room for improvement where emulators are concerned, as it allows one to enjoy classic games on various platforms. While the legalities of ROMs running on emulators continue to remain debatable, this has not stopped YouTuber Dave Bennett from showing off how Valve’s ‘Half-Life’ is able to run on an Android Wear device.
Using SDLash3D, Bennett has ensured that Valve titles can be emulated on Android and Android Wear devices, and what makes it all the more impressive is the fact that Half-Life ran pretty well on a smartwatch, although there are moments where the hardware has its struggles where frame rates are concerned.
This is a proof of concept, and it does not mean that your Android Wear powered timepiece will be the next big thing in portable gaming. After all, Valve’s Half-Life debuted in November 1998, and hence, much still needs to be done in the realm of wearable tech to have it pack that kind of juice required to run complex games from the previous century.
