According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, Paramount is said to be working with AMC and Cineplex to reduce that time to as short as six weeks, meaning that once the movie has been released in the cinema, you’d only have to wait as long as six weeks before you can buy and watch it on-demand, which we suppose it is actually a good idea since this would keep the movie fresh.
Unfortunately not every movie will be subject to this speedier treatment. So far it seems that only Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension and Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse will be trialed, but presumably if it is successful, we could see other movies in the future given the same treatment by Paramount and other movie studios as well.
This move by Paramount isn’t surprising given that they are one of the more “forward” studios in terms of adopting new standards and technology. Last year they were one of the first major studios to start sending their movies to theaters in the digital format.
