OnePlus is a relatively new smartphone company that emerged on the scene last year with the OnePlus One. The device faced a massive demand and supply gap soon after it was launched, customers had a very hard time in getting their hands on one. Despite all of the difficulties that customers faced in purchasing a unit the OnePlus One has done quite well for itself,.

OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei revealed in an interview with the Wall Street Journal that so far the company has sold more than 1.5 million units of the OnePlus One, even though the initial target given to the team was just 30,000 units which would have secured their jobs.

“Sell 50,000 phones and it’s a pretty good year. Sell 100,000 phones, it’s exceptional.’ But we ended up selling like, around 1.5 million smartphones,” Pei said in the interview.

Prior to starting OnePlus Pei worked at Chinese manufacturer Oppo, he was hired to work there by Pete Lau. Later both Pei and Lau decided to leave Oppo and start OnePlus because they thought there wasn’t one good enough Android smartphone on the market for them to use so they decided to make their own.

OnePlus is now gearing up to launch the successor to its first smartphone. The OnePlus Two is going to feature a the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor with 4GB RAM, a USB Type-C port and much more. An official announcement will take place next week.
