According to a recent job listing on LinkedIn (via NPU), it seems to suggest that Nokia is still interested in creating wearables, although what kind of wearables remains unknown. The job description reads, “As a member of the team, you will develop algorithms for extracting meaning from noisy data, and you will be able to precisely quantify the quality of the results, both from your own algorithms, but also from datasets that come from a variety of wearable devices.”
The wearables market is pretty hot at the moment, although pretty competitive given companies such as Apple, Samsung, LG, ASUS, Huawei, and etc. all have a stake in the market. You also have more fitness-dedicated companies such as Fitbit, Jawbone, Polar, Garmin, and more who churn out more fitness-related wearables like fitness tracking bands instead of smartwatches.
Now previously there was also a rumor about Nokia launching their own VR headset, but once again that market is pretty fierce with competition from the likes of Facebook-owned Oculus VR, Samsung, and Sony. In any case perhaps we will get a better idea of what Nokia is up to come 28th of July, so do check back with us then for the details.
