There’s a new report out today which claims that the new major Android Wear update is now going to be released in August instead of July and that it’s going to bring a couple of interesting features to smartwatches that are powered by Google’s wearable device platform. Some of these features are already available on the Apple Watch so it seems to be more about playing catchup with Cupertino’s first smartwatch.
Interactive watch faces are believed to be on the menu with a new single tap gesture, improving the way users interact with their Android Wear smartwatch.
The gesture can be used for making changes to the watch face, launching an activity and bringing up more information on the watch face itself.
The new major Android Wear update is also expected to bring cross-device communication, a feature that’s already present on the Apple Watch, as users can send their heart beat and doodles to each other.
A new communication method called Together will debut with the next update which will allow users to send messages, emojis, doodles, stickers and more between Android Wear devices.
This update was initially expected to be released on July 28th but if this report is to be believed then Google won’t be launching it until August at the very least.
