About nine months back Microsoft also made an entry into the consumer wearable device market with a product simply called the Microsoft Band. It’s not a smartwatch per se, rather it’s more of a fitness band that focuses exclusively on health and fitness related data tracking but is capable of doing notifications as well, and can also display the time. Since then the company has added new features to the device through software updates but hasn’t really talked about a successor, it has finally taken up that subject though.
Chief operating officer at Microsoft Kevin Turner has confirmed that the company is working on the second-generation Band, when asked about the successor he said “we’re working on it.”
Unfortunately Turner didn’t go into much detail about the second-generation Band itself so it’s unclear at this point in time what improvements Microsoft is looking to make.
It’s also not known at this point in time when Microsoft intends on launching the second-gen Band, Turner has merely confirmed that the company is working on one so we will have to wait for quite a bit to get all of that information.
Given that the Microsoft Band was very well received when it hit the market one can be sure that there are a lot of people out there waiting to see what Microsoft has in store this time around.
