We reported last month that Microsoft would soon be launching a service called Microsoft Wi-Fi, it’s basically a revamped version of the Skype Wi-Fi service that’s already available in many markets. The service will provide users with pay-as-you-go Wi-Fi connectivity through countless local hotspots, with users only having to pay for their connection time and not for the data consumed. Microsoft Wi-Fi service has now officially gone live for Windows 10 Insiders.
Windows 10 Insiders are the people who have registered with Microsoft to receive preview builds of Windows 10, the company has currently over five million people who are testing these builds on their own time.
As we head ever so closer to the public release of Windows 10 the company today released a new build, Build 10166, for Insiders. It provides bug fixes for some issues that were noticed in the previous build.
Testers who live in the Seattle area can also purchase paid Wi-Fi through the Windows Store by using the Microsoft Wi-Fi app. Users will know when they can purchase Wi-Fi when they see “Buy Wi-Fi from Windows Store” in their list of networks by clicking on the network icon on the lower right hand in the Taskbar.
It’s possible to pay for Wi-Fi in the Microsoft Wi-Fi app using a credit or debit card, Microsoft Gift Card, wireless carrier billing or PayPal.
The service is initially being tested in Seattle but Microsoft says soon the service will be opened to the rest of the United States.
