Last month Apple made it clear that the iPod would no longer be a priority to the company by removing a direct link to their iPod product page from their website. This doesn’t mean that the iPods have been discontinued, but rather Apple will choose to focus on less on it now than they did before.
However it looks like the iPod might not be completely ignored. It has been spotted that in the latest iTunes 12.2 update, new iPod images surfaced. The image above is shown when the user plugs their iPod in for the first time and as you can see, it looks like we can expect at the very least new iPod colors in the near future.
The iPod touch has been given a new coat of blue paint, while the iPod nano has been given a gold makeover, while the iPod shuffle has a new dark pink color option. Safe to say that these color options currently exist as far as the current iPod lineup is concerned, hinting that this could very well be a refresh in the works.
It is unclear if this is simply a color refresh or if Apple will introduce upgraded hardware, like more storage and potential new features software-wise, but like we said given that Apple appears to be benching the iPod, we wouldn’t be too optimistic about it. In any case hopefully we will learn more at Apple’s September iPhone event so check back with us then for the details.
